I am always interested in other maker's shops. This
has been my favorite part of the knife magazines, and when I can sneak a visit
in, I do.
This is a little tour of my place. Here is a rundown of my major
equipment.
In 1997, I started with a used Texas Knifemaker's intro grinder
(2x48) and learned to grind. In June `98, I bought a Bader BM III, 1 1/2 HP
variable speed, 2"x72" belt grinder with 10" contact wheel,
platen assembly and small wheel BJ arm. The rest of my equipment has been
added over the years and include a porta-band, scroll saw, 15" drill
press, Baldor buffer, heat treat oven, 64 1/2" metal cutting band saw,
a 3-in-1 lathe/mill/drill combo. In November 1999, I added a forge setup.
This included a propane forge, 200# anvil, 1927 model 25# little giant, and
a treadle hammer. I have since added a 25 ton hydraulic press to my smithy.
